Itineraries

I wanted to share a few itineraries of past trips that we have traveled to hopefully provide some guidance.

  • 12 days, 4 islands/stops

    CRETE: 2 nights

    - pick-up rental car

    -Malmo historic hotel in Chania

    Day 1

    - Land and settle in and walk around

    - Dinner at : To Maridaki

    Day 2

    - Balos beach (in the AM): go early to find parking

    - Lunch: Gramvousa (Gramboussa) Restaurant: opens at 12:30)

    - Elanfonossi beach

    - Dinner Res: Tamtam Restaurant @ 7:30 outside

    Day 3

    - Visit Rethymo in the AM then head to airport

    - Drop off car

    - Aegean Air Flights: CHQ- ATH & ATH- JTR: @ 5:15

    SANTORINI: 3 nights

    -San Antonio Hotel

    Day 3

    -Scheduled San Antonio hotel pick-up from airpot

    -Go to Fira for the evenings to check out beautiful shops and churches and have a drink at Franco’s Cafe

    Day 4

    -Drive to Fira and view three bells then drive to Oia and check-out windmill/ domes and shop (to view the blue domes: go down the side street next to Alexandros Jewelry)

    -Grabbed drinks at Apsithia and enjoyed the view

    -Dinner Res: Sunset Tavern at Ammoudi Bay @ 7:30 pm - drive down

    -Walked around Oia and took photos of blue domes in the evening and grabbed baklava/ Kataifi/ orange pie at Medevio

    Day 5

    -Hike Fira => Oia (6 miles, 1-way) 6AM-10AM = 4hrs (Need to take bus/ shuttle to Fira from hotel)

    -Relax at the hotel pool

    -Dinner Res: Cliffside Restaurant (San Antonio) @ 7pm

    Day 6

    -Ferry: Minoan Lines: Santorini to Paros (check-in online 48hrs prior)

    PAROS: 2 nights

    Saint Andrea Sea Side Resort

    Day 6 continued…

    -Check-In

    -Lunch @ Archipelago

    -Explore Nausau

    -Dinner: drove to Aliki and enjoyed dinner along the water @ To Balcony tou Aki in Aliki

    Day 7

    -Drove to Golden beach (25 min drive) from Nausau

    -After drove to explore Lefkes

    -Lunch: @ Flores

    -Checked-out Monastery beach

    -Dinner: Kafeneion- does not take reservation- try to get there by 7

    Day 8

    -Ferry: PAROS - MYKONOS

    MYKONOS: 2 nights

    -Myconian Korali

    Day 8 Continued…

    -check-in to hotel

    -picked up rental car and explored Old Town

    -Res at Scorpio Sunset Beach for 6:30

    -Dinner @ Bakalo

    -After Dinner drinks: Aglio E Olio – very close to Bakalo

    Day 9

    - Drove to Lunch @ Kiki’s Tavern: Go 30 mins before opening. Swim in the lagoon afterwards

    -Drove to Panormas Beach.

    -Head to the hotel and relax

    - Apertivo:  The Belvedere Hotel – grab a drink and enjoy the view

    -Dinner Res:  Pasta Fresca Barkia  @ 8:30pm

    Day 10

    -Ferry: Mykonos —> Piraeus:

    ATHENS: 2 nights

    Hotel Grande Bretagne

    Day 10 continued

    -taxi to the hotel and check-in

    -Visit: Agora area: and walk around

    -Tram up to Lycabettus

    - Dinner @ O Thanasis

    Day 11

    -Acropolis @ 8AM

    -Acropolis Museum

    -Lunch @ Zisis, Fish in a cone

    - walk around Psirri

    -Drinks at the Hotel GB Rooftop Bar

    -Dinner @ Kostas

    Day 12

    -fly home

  • Driving trip from San Sebastian to Lisbon

    SAN SEBASTIAN, SPAIN: 3 nights Lasala Plaza Hotel

    Day 1

    -Land at EAS airport, land @ 5:05 pm

    -Dinner: Pintxo Crawl:

    - Atari Gastroleku

    - SSCA: “best” croqueta in the city, and aranxitas, 2 euro wine

    - Casa vergara: Carmelized foie

    - Ganbara: Uni bowl, grilled beef sirloin, T-bone steak, grilled foie

    - Cervecerias la mejillonera: Tigres, marinera, calamor bravo (throw shells on the ground)

    - La cuchara: veal, suckling pig*, goat cheese, risotto

    - La vina: basque cheesecake

    - La cepta: mixto de jamon iberico, white asparagus*

    - Ttvn-ttvn taberna: cheesecake

    - Itxar pena: cute bar- serves food (tzakolina), artichoke salad

    - Boulevard gelato: torto de yema

    - Oiartzun. Rum raisin gelato

    - Bodega donostiarra: pulpo and sardines

    - Sunday, March 5th:

    - Lunch: Ganbara: stop by for crab tartlet/ stuffed croissant/ sit-downL fresh boletus a la plancha with a free-range egg yolk (beer: amber ale Arraun)

    - Dinner: La Vina - res @ 8pm

    - Monday, March 6th:

    - Lunch: La Cepa- best jamón OR Antonio Bar

    - Dinner: La Cuchara de San Telmo

    - Tuesday, March 7th:

    - Check-out to head to Bilbao

    Good Shepherd of San Sebastian Cathedral

    - Maria Cristina Zubia (bridge), walk north and up into Gros, eat at Baga Biga or

    Bodega Donostiarra Gros

    - Explore Gros, then walk back over Kursaal Zubia, eat at Gorrita Taberna

    - Explore Old Town, lots of landmarks and places to eat

    - Explore La Concha Beach and Igeldo Mendiko Behatokia, grab a bite to eat

    * pick up rental car (consider enterprise because may need to drop off in Vigo, then bus to Brago, then re-rent (avoids a $800 one-way fee). Bus is about 1:20mins, $15

    * Other option is bus from Vigo to Oporto Airport (Porto) - 2.5hr bus and about $10

    BILBAO, SPAIN: just a stop (1:10 drive),

    - Tuesday, March 7th: suggest leaving in the morning to have time in Bilbao and drive to Leon.

    LEON, SPAIN (1 NIGHT): (3:00 drive) 03/07- 03/08: Parador de Leon- booked by Katie, 208.67(USD), through chase portal

    - Tuesday, March 7th:

    - Check-in after visiting Bilbao

    Drop off car in Vigo, take bus to Brago, rent new car (enterprise)

    Explore Barrio Humeo (old town) morning

    -Plaza mayor and Calle ancha

    -Calle ancha will lead you to Leon cathedral (west) and Basilica de San Isodoro (north), eat at Bar la Ribera

    Afternoon -

    Day 2: - Convento de san marcos

    PORTO, PORTUGAL (2 NIGHTS): (4:00 drive) 03/08-03/10: NH Collection Porto Batalha, Navi’s Amex portal, $263.36, $8.10 due at hotel, Amex Hotel Collection - credit available to use at hotel

    - Wednesday, March 8th:

    - Autna Bus @ 12pm- Vigo—> Porto

    - Don lopo: store down an alley

    - Majestic cafe: French toast and porto combo: 13e

    - Casa guedes: (2 locations) simple pork sandwich- 4euro and beer with sprite or roasted pork with soft cheese

    - ***O diplomante: seasonal and salty pancakes with fancy cappuccinos- 1 block from Lello bookstore

    - Cafe Santiago: francesinha

    - Adega sao nicolau: octopus fillets with rice

    - O galeria: art

    - B| code (clothing store): meme road brand, American vintage, farm rio

    - BHR ponte Pensil- at the bridge. Best view of the river- sit and grab a drink

    - Monumento a Almedia Garret, can walk along the Avenido dos Aliados as there is a lot of good architecture

    - West is Rua Santa Catarina - notable walking street, would do this first after the Monumento, then travel south west to Livraria Lello, then to bento station

    - Sao bento station - 20,000 tiles of porto’s past, continue south

    - Porto Cathedral

    - Ponte de D. Luis

    -Food: Tapabento, Farinha (pizza)

    - other places: Bolsa Palace

    Stopped at Aveiro: cute canals

    - costa nova for coffee and sweets

    FATIMA - just a stop (2:00 drive)

    - Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima

    - Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity

    - As you drive south, Caves Mira de Aire - underground cave apparently worth the visit

    OBIDOS - just a stop (1:00 drive)

    - Igreja de Santa Maria

    - Castelo de Obidos, apparently a very good restaurant inside the hotel

    LISON, PORTUGAL (2 NIGHTS): (1:00 drive) 03/10- 03/12: The Ivens, Autograph Collection, Booked via Marriott (direct) by Navi, Eur 620.00
